WOODLAND, WA

Woodland, population of 4,960,  was incorporated in 1906 and is located 20 miles north of Vancouver, Washington and is the southern gateway to Mt. St. Helens.  The city is located in both Cowlitz and Clark Counties.  This is a growing community with 4,785 inhabitants (10,000 in general area) and is located at the junction of Interstate 5 and State Highway 503.

Woodland is home of the famous Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens (a national historic site that has an 1880's farmhouse and garden) and the annual celebration of The Lilac Festival.  Lilac Days Festival is now taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until May 11th.  Admission is $2, and free for age 11 and under children.  The Woodland Tulip[ Festival is coming to a close on April 20th.  Both of these sites offer beautiful and inspirational places to visit. The Planter's Day celebration is the oldest of its type in the Pacific Northwest and reflects Woodland's passion for tradition. Horseshow Lake is a big draw in the summertime and the old fashioned Cedar Creek Grist Mill (built in 1876) is also a "must see".  This mill is the oldest operating grist mill in the state.  This beautiful setting will provide you with a "lazy day of summer" feel.

The Lewis River plays a big part in the recreational part of Woodland.  Fishing is great and there are many local fishing holes with unique names.  (Just ask my 84 yr old father.)
