Battle Ground, a rural but fast-growing area (population 16, 240), is located 11 miles north of Vancouver, Washington and 19 miles north of Portland, OR along the Interstate 5 corridor. There will be a new interchange tying Interstate 5 to SR 502; this is due to open in 2009. This will give direct access from I-5 to the city of Battle Ground. This interchange will allow faster/easier access to I-5 for a commute north or south of Battle Ground.

We would like to congratulate Prairie High School Senior ASHLEY CORRAL for being selected to the McDonald's All-American basketball team. The Battle Ground Farmer's Market opened for its fourth season on April 12, 2008. You will find fresh flowers, candy, candles, herbs, plants, produce and more from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday through mid-October. The market is at 209 E. Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce is presenting the Harvest Days celebration July 17-20 with the parade being held July 19. There will be a book sale, a stage for entertainment, a microbeer and wine garden and a carnival. Mark your calendars for this one!
The Battle Ground Police Department announced that beginning on April 30, 2008, the 2008 Citizens Police Academy will open. Classes will be held every Wednesday, from 6 to 9 p.m.
What would you learn? An overview of the criminal justice system and police department procedures/operations. There will be hands-on training in crime scene investigation as well as classroom sessions. You must be a resient of the city or be employed within the city limits to take part in this intriguing and interesting academy. Call the police department at 342-5200 for an application.
